Services & Procedures

Doctors of optometry are independent primary health care providers who are trained and state licensed to examine, diagnose, treat and manage diseases and disorders of the visual system, the eye and associated structures as well as diagnose related systemic conditions.

While serving the primary eye care needs of the American public, today’s doctors of optometry recognize that responsible, quality care must involve the patient’s total health.

Doctors of optometry work closely with other health professionals by consulting with family practitioners, pediatricians, neurologists, ophthalmologists, dermatologists, and others when treatment is required outside the scope of their practice.

Brilliant Eyes Vision Center is more than an eye doctor giving routine exams, instead we are a state of the art eye clinic that will provide full scope optometry. We provide a range of services from eyeglass eye exams and contact lens exams to foreign body removal and red eye treatment. At our Marietta vision center Dr. Janelle Davison provides the following eye services, in addition to others.

Annual Eye Health Check Exam
A series of tests designed to evaluate your vision and check for eye diseases. We may use multiple types of instruments, aim bright lights directly at your eyes and request that you look through a seemingly endless array of lenses. Each test during an eye exam evaluates a different aspect of your vision. While performing the exam, our goal is to educate you (the patient) as much as possible.

Contact Lens Fitting
If your eyes are eligible, a tiny, thin correctional lens is fit directly over the cornea of the eye: It will then float on a film of tears as a resting place. Common types of lenses include, RGP (rigid gas permeable), daily wear soft lenses, extended wear soft lenses and planned replacement soft lenses.

Diabetic Exams
In conjunction with a standard eye exam, eyes are checked for symptoms of diabetes. Specifically, tests are performed to check changes in the retina. Damage such as leaks in the blood vessels, can cause distortions and blurred images. This can be directly correlated to diabetes.

Glaucoma Evaluation and Treatment
Glaucoma is a disease in which the optic nerve is damaged, leading to progressive, irreversible loss of vision. Often, but not always, associated with increased pressure of the fluid in the eye. A Glaucoma evaluation consists of checking elevations in fluid pressure in the eye, checking corneal thickness as well as nerve fiber layer loss.

Dry Eye Evaluation and Treatment
Opposite of its name, “dry eye” is characterized by excessive watering or tearing of the eye. By definition, dry eye syndrome is an eye disease caused by decreased tear production or increased tear film evaporation. Because of the irritation caused by a lack of “lubricating” tears in the eye, dry eye will cause an excessive amount of “reflex” tears that occur as a natural reflex of irritation. This reflex in turn causes the excessive watering. By using a microscope the doctor will evaluate the rate of tear production in your eye and checking how long it takes for tears to evaporate between blinks.

Foreign Body Removal
The removal of an object in the eye that is not normally present (such as a metal shaving)

Red Eye Diagnosis and Treatment
Caused by dilated blood vessels in the eye, red eye (also known as conjunctivitis), is characterized by irritated eyes, eye discharge and a reddish color. Tests usually include a thorough inspection of the eye lid as well as reactivity to light. Drops are prescribed to treat the eye if necessary.
